Overview: Modifications

Modification is a type of document that acts as a deviation from an original document. It inherits and syncs the content of the original document so that users working on the modification keep their documents up to date.

Modification uses the latest released version of the document to decide which version of the original document to copy content from.

The original inherited paragraphs can be edited while new paragraphs can be added at the end of the modification in order to preserve the structure of the original document's content. All edited and new paragraphs will be marked orange for easy identification.

The original paragraphs cannot be deleted or moved, they can only have its contents edited.

A modification has its own:

  • Permissions;
  • Workflows;
  • Release and publication cycles;
  • Change tracking.

When the original document releases a new document version, the edits of its paragraphs can be compared to the matching paragraphs in any of its modifications. This allows the identification of paragraphs in a modification that are in conflict with their original document counterparts, and consequently improves reviewing and resolution of the differences.

The following information can be reviewed for each modification:

  • Name;
  • Stage;
  • Owners;
  • Updated from (which released version of the original document);
  • Status (synced or not with the latest released version of the original document).
