Pre-conditions
- Document Level Permission: 'Owner', 'Editor'.
Steps
- Click on the paragraph.
- Select Start numbering from*.
Supplementary Information
Non-sequential Numbering:
- Click on a paragraph number that should have different numbering.
- Select Start numbering from.
- Select the number for the paragraph by clicking on upward or downward arrow icon. The change will be applied to the entire list: e.g. from the selected paragraph and onwards, including the sub-paragraphs.
- Click Save.
Sequential Numbering with Prefix/Postfix:
- If the paragraph is not the very first paragraph in the document, start the new numbering sequence by clicking on a paragraph number and select Restart numbering if the customized numbered sequence should restart or Start numbering from to start from any other number/digit. Select the number/digit to start with even if it is the same as the default.
- Click on a paragraph number.
- Select Edit prefix/postfix.
- Enter a prefix (e.g. A for A1.) or a postfix (e.g. Z for 1Z.).
- Click Save.
Numbering with Added Symbol:
Example: There are sections numbered A1., A2., A3. and A4., and an additional section needs to be added between A2. and A3. while keeping the existing numbering. It is possible to add such section as A2A. - a number with a symbol.
- Add the new paragraph (e.g. a paragraph between A2. and A2. is added as paragraph A3.).
- Separate the custom numbering sequence from the rest of the document:
- Click on a paragraph number in a newly added paragraph and select Start numbering from.
- Select the number/digit to start with (e.g. select 2).
- Click Save.
- Click on the next paragraph number and select Start numbering from.
- Select the number/digit to continue the default numbering from (e.g. select 3).
- Click Save.
- Click on a paragraph number.
- Select Edit prefix/postfix.
- Enter Decorate numbering level digit and fill in either Before or After or both fields (e.g. select A).
- Click Save.
Custom Numbering for the Selected Section:
- Separate the custom numbering sequence from the rest of the document by:
- Click on a paragraph number of the first paragraph that should be customized (e.g. a paragraph after 2) and select Restart numbering.
- Click on the paragraph number of the first paragraph after the customized section (e.g. 3) and select Start numbering from. Select the number/digit to continue the default numbering from (e.g. select 3).
- Click Save.
- Go back to the first paragraph that should be customized.
- Click on its number.
- Select Customize numbering.
- Stay on the Selected level tab to apply the change to the selected level only or click on the Entire list tab to customize the numbering for the entire section along with sub-paragraphs.
- Select the numbering style for the paragraph(s) by clicking on upward or downward arrow icons.
- Uncheck the Tiered Numbers box if the preceding number should not be shown (only applicable to sub-paragraphs).
- Click Save.
Notes
- Edit prefix/postfix does not work with subparagraphs. However, decorate numbering level digit on does apply to subparagraphs.
