Overview: Data Connections

Data in this context is either a unique document or a paragraph of a unique document. A data connection is a connection between two pieces of content, differentiated by the document they are in.

Users can create connections between paragraphs and documents across the platform.

Data connections can be made at three distinct levels between documents:

  • document to document;
  • paragraph to document;
  • paragraph to paragraph.

Additionally, when linking paragraphs together, users can mark paragraphs with tags. Tags help to sort, view and manage all related paragraphs and documents. Only system administrators or tag managers can create tags to mark paragraphs with.

There are three types of data connections available:

Type Description
Ongoing

Active connections created by users.

Changed

Changed connections are notifications about changes in connected content.
When a user edits a paragraph with connection(s), the connection status is set to Changed and the owner of the connected document(s) needs to review the changed content, make edits to the connected content of their document and keep or remove the connection. If kept, changed connections will become Ongoing again.

Suggested

Suggested connections are created by the system automatically. Users need to review suggested connections and confirm if those suggestions are valid. If saved, the suggestion will become an Ongoing connection.
